There Was This Girl... How many stories of unrequited love have started with this phrase? I wanted to create a series of images that would immediately take you to a time when you yourself may have used that phrase to recount a story.
The close cropped image, reflects those moments when we fondly recall a particular feature of someone now gone from our lives, a cherished memory of someone’s perfume, how they looked in a certain outfit, or their smile....
It forms part of my Photo Love Story Series which explores fleeting glances, intangible moments and missed opportunities for love.
As with much of my work you probably think you have seen a similar image and that is kind of the point, as this whole collection is based around traces of memory. In fact this particular image is very much influenced by a trend in 80's and 90's pop videos where faces were bleached out; I loved that effect, and wanted to capture it in this series of works.
There Was This Girl measures 30.5 x 30.5cms approx, to fit a standard ‘Vinyl Album’ frame of 12 x 12 inches.
