Photo Love Story

The Photo Love Story Collection was inspired by exactly that, 'photo love stories' that appeared in girls magazines many years ago, yet still going strong in The Sun newspaper as 'Deidre's Photo Casebook'.
The series is based around missed encounters, what could have been, and vague memories of past loves and old flames. Indeed even my memory of the inspiration material is vague. In my head I can hear a radio jingle singing 'Another True Story', and some orchestral music as the backing music to a sad story... and its only after producing the work that I went back and found out I was confusing two old radio sections by Simon Bates - Our Tune, using the theme from a Romeo & Juliet film adaptation, and Steve Wright - Another True Story, on Radio 1.
Anyhow, the works started off as a photo shoot with myself and a friend, both dressed as white collar city types, but essentially we are a faceless, timeless, everyman.
The original photos were copied and collaged, cut up and reassembled, over and over, purposely using standard office paper and the mono function on the photocopier, blowing the photos up and back down so that the quality disintegrates, and becoming a vague memory as per the meaning of the work itself.
The retro feel is completed by all of the works being produced as '12inch' square prints to fit vinyl album frames, and who knows perhaps one day will produce a special gatefold collector’s edition. Meanwhile enjoy the 12 inch versions of a Photo Love Story.
